Direct Pathogenic Listeria Test Launched
SwabSURE ListeriaP
The first direct detection kit for pathogenic Listeria

Launched in May 2011, Technical Service Consultants SwabSURE ListeriaP is an innovative, Campden BRI validated, ISO 18593 compliant, easy to use colour-change Listeria testing system for food contact and environmental surfaces. In tests, it reliably detects Listeria monocytogenes down to 1 CFU per sample whilst excluding Bacillus spp., Entercoccus spp., Micrococcus spp., Klebsiella spp. and other spoilage organisms. ListeriaP permits easy differentiation between pathogenic Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria ivanovii from other background microorganisms including Listeria species like Listeria innocua. This simplifies the whole testing process involved in meeting safety and regulatory requirements such as HACCP.
Throughout sampling, the pre-moistened foam swab optimises sample collection whilst the unique TSC neutralising buffer inactivates any disinfectant residues including QAC’s, phenols, peroxides and most sansitisers, enhancing cell recovery ensuring accurate and confident results every time. After swab transfer into the ListeriaP medium using the convenient breakpoint, the structure of foam swab maximises sample release ensuring optimal recovery of target cells, supporting growth and rapid Phospholipase production.
This enzyme cleaves the chromogenic substrate giving specific identification of pathogenic Listeria by changing the liquid medium from straw to turquoise within 24 to 48 hours. The straight forward visual screen reduces costly subculturing and further identification needs. Inclusion of the chromogen eliminates false positives, a common failure with other traditional methods. ListeriaP is simple, quick and ready to use with the kit containing everything to perform 81 tests. Please see here for validation report.
